Crystal Safety Glass (M) Sdn Bhd, founded by Dato’ Seri Michael Tan Seng Huat in 1992, faced severe financial setbacks during the Asian Financial Crisis in 1997. However, an unexpected opportunity arose when two containers of glass were offered as debt settlement. Dato’ Seri Michael saw potential in using the glass for construction materials, transforming the company’s focus from glassware trading to glass manufacturing. Today, Crystal Safety Glass (M) Sdn Bhd continues to thrive, diversifying into green products and expanding its operations globally, with an expected new factory in Shah Alam by 2018.
